Medical Appointments
At your appointment you will be measured, weighed, and your blood pressure will be checked. We may determine various tests are necessary. Many of those tests we take and get results immediately. Others we will take and send to an outside lab for results. Still other tests (like x-rays) may require you to schedule them outside of our clinic. For those we will give you a prescription or an order with directions on how to schedule those tests.
A follow up for a medical appointment is often needed to check how you are doing with your care. The school-based health center has a 24-hour answering service, through Loyola University Medical Center, so students may reach us anytime.

Social Work Appointments
A social worker will talk with you about your feelings, thoughts, relationships, and important values. During the first visit, your social worker will probably ask you to talk a bit about yourself and ask about problems, concerns, and symptoms that you may be having. The first meeting helps the social worker understand you better, and gives you a chance to feel comfortable.
Meeting with a social worker usually involves more than one appointment. At future appointments, your social worker may talk to you about what is going on with you. Together, you and your social worker will decide on your goals and how frequently to meet. With a better understanding of your situation, the social worker might teach you new skills or help you to think about a situation in a new way. For example, social workers can help people develop better relationship skills or coping skills, including ways to build confidence, express feelings, or manage anger.

Medical Nutrition Therapy Appointments
A registered dietitian will ask you questions about what you like to eat and drink for all of your meals and snacks, as well as what type of after school activities you participate in. The information you provide will help the dietitian to assist you in setting attainable nutrition and/or physical activity goals to improve your health. Nutrition education specific to your individual needs will be provided at each meeting. After the initial meeting, you will check in with the dietitian as often as needed so she can monitor your progress and support your continued effort to be a healthier student.

Confidentiality
When you schedule a visit to the school-based health center you can expect confidentiality. Health center staff respect the privacy of students and keep things they're told confidential. We won't tell anyone else — including parents or school staff—about what you tell us unless you give us permission. The only exception is if we have good reason to believe you may harm yourself or others.
Parent or guardian consent is not necessary for visits related to sexual health or mental health, but is required for other services. When you schedule your appointment a medical record chart is made for you. The information in your chart is only seen by the Loyola medical center staff unless you give us permission to share information.
If the issue of privacy and confidentiality worries you, be sure to ask about it during your appointment.
