Medical heroes work at Proviso East!
The health brochure shelves in room 86B at Proviso East High School are empty. A bottle of hand sanitizer sits on the receptionist's desk. To the right, there is a sign that reminds visitors that masks are required. The waiting area of the clinic is quiet and has no patients. The Loyola University Chicago school-based health center was bustling with students in need of health services before COVID-19 changed our way of life.
"It makes me sad to think about it," said Kate Myczek, family nurse practitioner and the clinical manager for Primary Care. "We used to have a waiting room that was so full we would have to tell the kids to go to class. We only have two chairs in the waiting room because of social distancing."
The Loyola University Chicago Niehoff School of Nursing’s School-Based Health Center (SBHC) was closed in March because of COVID-19 but reopened in late July. Continue to full article.
Students are not required to provide insurance, and all services are of no cost to all District 209 students. To schedule an appointment call, (708) 449-9522.
Students can also request an appointment directly by contacting Patricia Bailey through Microsoft Teams.

While cigarette use among middle and high school students is at an all-time low, vaping among young people has risen to epidemic levels. One out of every four high school students reports using e-cigarettes. Because e-cigarettes are new and constantly changing, many parents don’t know what to look for and have questions about how to talk with their child about vaping.
